Katy McNicholas, ATR, LPC

My Story

As a Registered Art Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor, Katy weaves together traditional talk therapy methods with art therapy.  Art therapy allows clients an opportunity to express emotions in a tangible way.  This can help clients identify and process feelings and work towards their goals.  Creating art as a therapeutic process is emphasized over the look of the final product.  Artwork created in sessions acts as a physical representation of the work done in therapy.  For this reason, clients do not need any artistic ability or experience with art making to engage in art therapy.  Katy will select art materials and directives based on clients interests, needs, and skill level.  Katy specializes in working with women ages 14+ who are navigating a variety of life challenges.  Anxiety, depression, overwhelming stress, and life transitions can impact our ability to cope.  Katy strives to help clients feel seen, heard, and recognize that they are not alone.

Katy will greet you with compassion and hope, as you have already taken the first step towards feeling better!  Together, we will learn about how you got to this place, develop tools to help you feel more equipped to handle difficulties, and pursue a life of hope and joy.

When Katy is not working, she loves spending time with her daughters,  going for runs (with her dog), reading, making art of her own, and spending time with her family, friends, and church community.
